About 1980 Shiela found that the Kline bottle shape can be made by weaving diagonally with a single geodesic thread.

Melanie, who is a conceptual artist, attended a seminar that Shiela gave on the diagonally woven Kline bottle construction. With great excitement Melanie immediately realised that the woven form gave her the answer to a problem she had been wrestling with for years. Her artwork and thought had ranged across most areas of conflict- political, historic, emotional, physical, familial...After that seminar she became convinced that ancient peoples were aware of this reconciling form.

Her PHD thesis searches through pre-history, early history and sacred geometry, It presents these intimations from the past. Melanie's work had sought to find a visual form which would present opposed entities as really one thing.

The Shiela Structure did the trick. Although our respective work flies off in different directions we have, from the very beginning, had a close connection. Our mutual trust and respect has built a friendship that keeps sustaining us and leading each of us into new areas of discovery and understanding.
